Signs and Symptoms
The term cramp refers to
a sudden, involuntary, spasmodic muscular contraction often associated with
discomfort or pain. It may occur as a reflexive response to underlying pain or
as the result of direct strain or injury to muscle. Nerve compromise and
metabolic disorders may predispose a muscle to cramp. A muscle cramp can
disrupt the normal movement of a joint or spinal segment.
